1) When you think of DBA life, should you be ready to give up your sleepy nights and ready to take the calls anytime.
2) There are few things which would make your life as a DBA scintillating and thriving
a) Typing skills
b) Documenting skills
c) Should find yourself a way that you can improve your memory
d) You should be familiarized with where to look for the solution of any issue
3) In any environment, people [in this case i refer the developers] would feel free to load on their issues in which you would spend hours and get nothing out of it. So you should be able to find whose issue is that in first place.
4) Finding the problem first thing is like solving the problem half way. Most of us would be fighting with the developers to make them understand its their problem.
5) If the problem is found from DBA side, then try to fix it first and go back to the issue and find the root cause. Once you are finalized with the root cause find a way to avoid it in future.
6) DBA should be capable to convince the client that his data is safe at any given point of time.
7) Getting the trust of client is an art. If you are forget to learn that, art then you are out of the court.
